How to Integrate Self-Care Within Your Team When Company Culture Falls Short

Corporate Wellness

I know that many of you truly want your employees to take breaks during the workday. Ones that feel refreshing with an opportunity to recalibrate, so they're not just "in the grind" until exhaustion and burnout take over. Even if your company or industry hasn’t fully embraced self-care as part of the culture yet, there’s still hope.

Here are two actionable ways to weave self-care into your team's routine:

Integrate wellness breaks into your project timelines

Plan them right from the start so your team can pause and recharge before tackling big milestones. Check in with a dedicated break midway to help maintain motivation and focus. Schedule a collective decompress session once the project wraps to celebrate accomplishments and release any lingering stress. By intentionally building these moments of care into each phase, you not only support your team’s self-care but also boost productivity, creativity, and morale throughout the entire process.

Dedicate 2-3 minutes at the beginning of meetings for quick stress relief

Invite everyone to join in simple yet energizing activities like stomping their feet, shaking out their hands, or taking a few deep, audible breaths together. These brief, communal exercises not only help release tension and clear the mind, but also foster a sense of camaraderie and presence among your team. Starting meetings with this intentional pause can set a positive tone, increase focus, and remind everyone that their well-being matters, even in a fast-paced work environment.

Give these tips a try with your team, weaving them into your meeting routines and project cycles. After a few months, take time to gather feedback and reflect together on the changes you’ve noticed in your team’s self-care habits and overall sense of well-being. Celebrate the progress and recognize the positive impact that even simple acts of self-care can have on both morale and productivity for your team - that may even extend throughout the company as part of a cultural shift. This intentional check-in not only reinforces your commitment to workplace wellness but also inspires ongoing growth, resilience, and connection within your team.
