Transform Your Response to Change with Two Simple Wellness Techniques

Wellness Yoga

Summer is a wonderful season to embrace Tapas. This is one of the Niyamas in yoga (how we treat ourselves) and refers to the inner heat or discomfort required for transformation and positive change. We can use Tapas to open a dialogue about change and inspire action towards transforming in whatever way resonates with you.

Yoga Tips to Navigate Change

Whether you've experienced loss of a loved one or work transitions such as reorganizations, layoffs or leadership changes, it can be a lot to take in. We can't control all of the changes that happen in our life, but we can transform the way we feel or respond to them.

Below are two techniques to shift your mindset to accept and embrace change, once you've processed the discomfort you feel.

Understand Your Response to Change with Journaling

Use these inquiries to learn more about your default response to change, how you would like to respond in the future and lean into the historical positive truths you've experienced with change throughout your life so far.

  1. Do you embrace change or feel resistance to it?
  2. How do you want to feel about changes in your life?
  3. Think of one change you were nervous about that positively impacted you.

Transform Your Mindset with Mantras

Now that you're aware of how you feel and want to feel about change, create a mantra or affirmation that can help shift your thoughts and emotions to be receptive to change. For example, you can use "I am ready for change".

Once you choose the mantra, say it a few times out loud to make sure it resonates with you. Write it on a Post-It for your desk, fridge and/or bathroom mirror. Commit to saying it at least once whenever you see it over the next week. Notice what shifts start to happen!

If you're ready to take action towards improving your mindset and resilience, I'd love to support you!
