Release Work Day Stress with Easy Grounding Techniques At Your Desk

With work loads increasing due to mergers, layoffs and reorganizations, I'm sharing easy ways to ground yourself right at your desk to manage stress or anxiety during the work day. Grounding techniques encourage us to get out of our heads and into the present moment so we can recharge, relax and reset our nervous systems. By using these simple tools throughout the day, our stress doesn't keep piling up to overwhelm us by the time we try to slip into restful sleep. Instead, we can use grounding techniques to give ourself micro-breaks that release stress little by little and keep us in the flow between both states of our nervous system.

Grounding Techniques to Use at Your Desk

  • Press your feet into the floor and take 3 slow breaths
  • Look out the window and name 5 things you see
  • Upload nature pics as your desktop background
  • Visualize being in your favorite nature location

The true trick is to be mindfully present with everything you do! When you're walking, firm your feet on the ground. Get your hands or feet in the dirt or grass. Keep your thoughts in the moment - what you feel in your body or what beauty you observe outside.
