My passion for yoga started after years of practice gave me my life back! Before yoga, I was overweight, stressed, depressed and unhappy. My migraine attacks were out of control. I couldn't walk up the two flights of stairs to my apartment without getting winded. My general demeanor was cranky to say the least. It was time for a change. I finally stepped into a yoga studio and seriously left feeling like that was what I was missing in my life. I went home and told my husband how amazing I felt, but he could see it on my face. My practice took off from there and eventually led me to my teacher training. After completing my certification, I knew that I had to share my passion so Love & Asana was born.
I started Love & Asana in 2016 as a yoga apparel company with mantras and designs geared towards avid yoga students and teachers. They were fun and different - ones you didn't see anywhere else. No basic "breathe" or "exhale" graphics. It was all about starting a conversation and being proud of your practice when you rocked my tops!
I also wanted my business to be a social impact organization - giving back in some way to society. All shirts purchased help fund yoga programs for under-served populations, like cancer survivors, military veterans and people recovering from eating disorders. Since opening, I've donated over $3,000 from your purchases!
What's the name mean?
Personally, I came to yoga for the physicality of it and consider my teaching zone of genius as helping others access wellness through poses. It only made sense to use "asana" in my business name. Through yoga, I learned to love myself and others better - so naturally, love went into the name as well.
Why did "love" come first?
Yoga encompasses a wide variety of ways to live well - its not all about the poses. Those ways of living are referred to as the 8 limbs. Since asana (yoga posture in Sanskrit) is only 1 of the 8 limbs of yoga, all other limbs were incorporated into "love" and placed first in my business name.
In 2019, I transitioned into a full service virtual yoga studio. I was teaching private and group classes before Love & Asana opened, but never put teaching and L+A together in my head. After many hours of meditation and coaching, it finally felt right for me to combine them as one awesome force!
Now all of you can be supported in your practice - from beginner to teacher - with super soft mantra tees, online courses, group programs and custom yoga sessions on Zoom...all from Love & Asana!
