As a migraine sufferer, I've used yoga to personally manage my migraines and have helped others do the same as the resident instructor for the International Headache Center and private virtual yoga coach at Love & Asana.

Each class is designed based on my "quadrant of triggers" - stress (S), rest (R), movement (M) and posture (P).

YOGA FOR MIGRAINES CLASS SCHEDULE

TUESDAYS

Total Relax (S,R) - 9:00am MDT (30 min)
Allow your body and mind to fully relax with a guided progressive relaxation and open monitoring meditation practice. The entire class is done laying down. This class is the same every week. Perfect for those of you who have never meditated or tried meditation but didn't like it.
Props: None required. Feel free to have a bolster or pillow for underneath your knees (if you're low back gets sore after laying flat) and/or your neck. Eye pillows are nice as well.

Restore (S,R,M) - 6:00pm MDT (60 min)
Unwind with this gentle movement class combining slow stretching with a focus on calming your nervous system to ready the body and mind for sleep. This class is the same every week.
Props: None required. If you have props at home, feel free to use them in class.

 

WEDNESDAYS

CORE Stretch & Strengthen (P,M) - 12:00pm MDT (60 min)
Workout with this energetic power yoga flow designed to build strength and stretch your core - front and back! Posture can be a component of muscle tension in the body, which may trigger migraine attacks. If you feel like you're hunched over by the end of the day, join me and build muscle memory for better posture in your torso. This class is the same every week.
This class is not recommended during an attack.
Props: None required. If you have props at home, feel free to use them in class.

 

THURSDAYS

Migraine Flow (M) - 9:00am MDT (30 min)
Start off your day with a slow flow and gentle stretches to warm up the body and focus the mind! This class will not have any inversions (downward facing dog, forward folds, anything with the head below the heart), as I've found them to be an issue for many migraineurs - especially those new to yoga.
This class is not recommended during an attack.
Props: None required. If you have props at home, feel free to use them in class.

Meditate & Breathe (S,R) - 12:00pm MDT (30 min)
Feel the stress melt away as you relax during a guided meditation and breath work practice! Use this class to start your meditation & pranayama practice or to create more consistency.
Props: None required. Feel free to have a block or pillow for seated meditation and breathing. If you enjoy props under the knees, neck or head when laying down, have those available.

NECK Stretch & Strengthen (P,M) - 5:30pm MDT (30 min)
Workout with this energetic power yoga flow designed to build strength and stretch your neck, shoulders and chest! Posture can be a component of muscle tension in the body, which may trigger migraine attacks. If your stress from the day ends up manifesting in your neck and shoulders, join me to build muscle memory for better posture. This class is the same every week.
This class is not recommended during an attack.
Props: None required. If you have props at home, feel free to use them in class.

Restore Express (S,R,M) - 6:30pm MDT (30 min)
Unwind with this gentle movement class combining slow stretching with a focus on calming your nervous system to ready the body and mind for sleep. This class is the same every week.

Yoga is not a treatment for migraines. I'm offering to help you learn yoga techniques that may help manage your stress, movement, sleep and posture as a lifestyle modification to help manage your migraine burden.

You don't have to experience migraine to benefit from these classes. They are all based on yoga poses, meditation and breathing techniques that you will find in other classes. These classes pull from the most beneficial yoga techniques for people needing help managing stress, sleep, exercise and posture.
